Looking to update your equipment ? Not sure where to start ?
Speed date them that’s where !!
When you meet someone for the first time you can normally tell within a few minutes if your going to get on or not !
The same goes for your clubs !
Whether it’s a new Driver a set of irons or even a putter ! You’ll often notice after a few shots which one you don’t like .. before you find the one you do like.
It could be the way it sounds or feels off the face at impact or it could be the size of the head that puts you off or even the way it looks !
The other thing to remember is there are no such thing as ” industry standard” as each company’s specs are normally designed for their market eg a Mizuno iron is spec’d for a slightly shorter person as opposed to a Titleist/Callaway which suits a taller person. Also each company has it’s “own standard” and upgrade shafts available which is exclusive to them.So before you start wondering what shaft you need you first have to decide what brand you’re going with.
Once you’ve decided what you like then the next step is to book a custom fit to check whether you’re ok with an off the shelf set (50%) or they need to be assembled at the factory.
This bit always reminds me of ordering a PIZZA ! At the golf factory all the clubheads , shafts and grips are waiting to be assembled fresh based on what was ordered, as is the salami , onions , peppers etc. Not taken off the shelf in the golf shop and modified as some people assume. Also be patient when you order your pizza there’s normally a queue , they don’t start making your pizza as soon as the phone goes down.
Hopefully this sheds some light on the subject and helps you the next time you’re looking to change you’re equipment.
KEEP IN MIND THOUGH, GOLF CLUBS ARE LIKE YOUR OTHER HALF , THERE WILL BE DAYS YOU DON’T GET ON WELL WITH THEM BUT IT HELPS IF YOU STILL ENJOY LOOKING AT THEM !
